They say home is where your heart is. Well, when it comes to books, setting is where the AWESOME is, dude!
... Sorry, I shouldn't come up with sayings. (Remind me to never apply for a job in greeting cards.) Despite that unfortunateness, setting is a big honkin' part of writing fiction. And now I've gone and blogged about the topic over at Kirsten Rice's blog, A Romantic Enters the World!
Kirsten is a college student and author, and her fabulousity knows no bounds, so I was mega honored to blog for her. Featured in the post is the beauty and desolation found within one of Autochromatic's main settings: the American West. Check it out and let me know what you think!
Cowboys, ghost towns, red rocks... the West is steeped in history and some incredible landscapes. I'd give anything to go visit it again. But here in the Northeast, the changing leaves make for a pretty cool setting, too! Those gorgeous reds and golds are a sign of transition.
Plus, they mean holidays are just around the corner! Mega exciting, foshiz. What's your favorite setting in nature? And what are you excited for between now and the New Year? (I know I can't wait to finish studying for these SATs... and to track down and STEAL THIS BIRD omg.)

Great guest post! Setting is one of my weaker points, so it was definitely an eye-opener. Thanks for sharing that bird video. That's like the best thing I've seen in weeks. :)
Right now, my WIP is set everywhere in the world. Seriously.
My five MCs are from France, Egypt, Italy, US and China and they meet together on a time machine that takes them to the NORTH POLE in 2250!!
I know. Awesome. I'm already picturing the query (even though I'm only done with four chapters. But it's something.)
Haha..
Gonna head over there and read the post!
Pam - :) ISN'T IT? Man, I almost cried from laughing during the first watch. It shouldn't be so entertaining, but it iiis haha.
Mariam - North Pole? 2250?? That. Is. Awesome. :D I love it when you get to meet characters from different countries. Good luck writing!
Cool pic. Autumn forests are really pretty. They'd be my favorite setting if wasn't for winter ski mountains. =)
I love different sides of the spectrum. Give me incredibly, wide open spaces full of trees and corn fields to run through with my besties or give me a towering skyscrapers and busy streets (also there for me and my besties to run through)
Oh. I took the ACT last Saturday. It was basically my last chance. Comp and reading were so easy that it gave me false confidence. Math...*small cringe*. Science...*double cringe*. I'm crossing my fingers for at least a 28.
Good luck chicka! :D <33
J - Love that choice! The snowfall & lights dazzle for sure... I'd probs be happier looking from inside a window hehe, but the view from the top of the slope must be beautiful!
MJ - *swoons* Great imagery :D Space to run around is a must! + THE ACT whoo. I bet you did awesome <33 It always seems worse than it is while you're taking it - at least that's what I tell myself :) Thanks so much for the good luck!
Hate SATS. Passionate hatred.I took the ACT for the first time last week and I have to say, the setting 'blank, cold room' should be abandoned unless for like, torture.
Favorite setting -- okay, this sounds odd, but I like the idea of cities, especially futuristic ones. (-cringes at how dumb that sounded-) Like, the abandoned city in Uglies, or the underground city in the latter Matrix movies. I am freakishly fascinated by them.
my fave setting is NE fall.Everything I write somehow seems to end up describing leaves & trees, and a lot of the time it's autumn trees.
I finally saw New England this weekend in the fall AND it's OMGBEAUTIFUL. Like jaw-dropping.
More SATs? eeek. GL.
you've won an award at my blog!
Sam - YES YES I approve of this referendum. :) Futuristic cities aren't odd at all! I always got such a kick out of imagining the Uglies cities. How cool would it be to see a place like NYC in 2300? (Assuming no disasters have befallen it LOL.) The TV show Futurama -> awesome for that.
Meg - Eeee, you had your visit!! Gonna email you hehe. The leaves are simply great. Love that you were exposed :D
Holly - Going over there now - thanks so much, Holly!
