And We Have a Winner! [RTW]

Road Trip Wednesday is a blog carnival hosted by the fab YA Highway. This week's question: what is your favorite line in your WIP?

It's always party time on the Boardwalk.
Warning: the title of this post has a double meaning! (No, it's not sexual. GEEZ. Okay, okay, knowing me it totally would be.) The first meaning is... we have a contest winner! That's right, the Hello 2011 Giveaway ended last night, and the randomized winner of that $25 Barnes and Noble gift card is... (I really like ellipses...)

Lisa @ Lost In Literature

Congratulations, Lisa! For anyone wondering, Lisa is the creator of the book blog Lost in Literature, and just a quick visit over there told me she's awesome. So is everyone who entered! Thank you, guys, for making that such a fun giveaway.

Now, onto the second meaning...

Occasionally when you're toiling away at a WIP (Work In Progress), a line of words will fall from your fingers, splosh onto the keyboard, and leave you feeling 100% stunned. Did your brain just produce that? It might not be perfect - heck, it might've taken a round or two of edits to make readable - but man, it seems like a winner!

A winning line can be unusually imaginative, devastating, snappy, or just plain perfect for the scene it's in. It gets you excited and gives you the stamina to continue. Ideally, it will do the same for your readers!

I absolutely love when these lines pop up, considering how shy they can be. With Autochromatic edits done, right now I'm working on a new WIP tentatively named Bad Sun. It's so exciting to be working with all-new words - after all, the potential for new winning lines in a first draft is huge.

Oh hello there.
Here's my favorite WIP line so far (at this moment, at least). Context: main character Harper is eating dinner on the Boardwalk in the fictional beach town of Sun City, USA. It's silly, it's off-base, but it's so like Harper - and who could ask for anything else?
Somebody somewhere was the first person to deep-fry an Oreo, and I swear to all that is delicious, one day I am going to track that person down and make out with them. (...)
Yes, you are, Harper. Yes you are. What's your fave "winning" line in your WIP? Also, assuming you someday have the chance to try them and don't have a heart condition, fried Oreos = A YES. I will personally cover the increase in your health care costs later in life.* *This is not a guaranteed guarantee

I love those gems, too. Probably more than fried Oreos. But you have to understand, I've never had a fried Oreo. I could be swayed.

LOVE fried Oreos! Um, and if you need a beta when BAD SUN is done, you know where to find me ;)

LOL, great stuff! Fried Oreos? Harper's my type of protagonist! :)

I very much love this line!!!

That's so weird--- I had the same reaction when I had my first deep fried oreo.

Excellent!

AHH That line is amazing. Instantly in love. I echo Kara's sentiments re: betaing :)

I've never had a fried oreo either, but I dig the line!

The line made me laugh, it was that good. Like most, I'm in the 'haven't had a deep-fried Oreo' camp, but if it's anything like a grilled one, I bet it's interesting.

ewwwwwwwww

I'd try one.

That is great! I don't know if I'd be willing to try one...but I like how she says she is!

Yum! I think. I've never actually tried one. But I love fried anything :) Harper sounds like a fun character!

EMILIA.

I have never eaten a deep fried Oreo. Methinks we need to fix this ASAP.

Love you girl, and your freaking amazing writing voice.

Damn, my sister made deep fried Oreos at Christmas and I didn't try one. Now I'm kicking myself.

Also I demand more info on BAD SUN.

A guy at the Texas State Fair last summer invented deep fried beer. No, I'm not kidding. I would totally make out with him for one of those, but I wouldn't shave first.

And I know you're only 17 and can't drink, but hell, you're not supposed to know that sex exists either, er - something like that.

I love fried oreos, and I love that line.

Fried oreoes! I read about Jessica Simpson eating some of those at some fancy NYC yesterday just the other day. They sound delicious, and deliciously awful for you!

fancy NYC restaurant, that is ;)

I love you all!!! Oh my gosh. Fried Oreos ALL AROUND ;D Harper is nodding in approval.

Kara & Sarah - Eee! The thought of being betad by you two makes me heart race... with love. hehe <3

Alicia - Well, basically the Oreo turns into this cakey, chocolate substance with a hint of mint, and then the outside is pretty much powdered funnel cake... AH it's good. I could only eat one and a half, but I'll never forget hahaha.

Matthew - Fried beer OMG. Whuuut. This will have to be checked out, uh, four years from now :D

Abby - Celebrities always know what's up. hehe!

Deep fried oreos? OH MY. *drool*

Also, Harper sounds really cool. I like it already.

Fried Oreos both entice and frighten me. The King of the Pile in that picture looks so friendly . . . the scales may be tipping in favor of TRY ME.

Also, that line rocks. Thanks for sharing.
